  • STEM Outreach

The Neuromuscular – Healthy Exercise and Aging Lab is committed to active community engagement programs to support Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) advances for underrepresented persons.

Welcome

Welcome to the Neuromuscular – Healthy Exercise and Aging Lab (HEAL)! We are in ART 122 at the University of British Columbia Okanagan in Kelowna. Research and community engagement initiatives in the HEAL group are directed by Dr. Jennifer Jakobi, Professor in the School of Health and Exercise Sciences within the Faculty of Health and Social Development. Our work focuses on understanding how the neuromuscular system is altered with age and how changes in this system are (or are not!) sex-related. We apply this knowledge to enhance our understanding and approaches to the betterment of functional movement as we age. We are hoping to certify UBC Okanagan as an age-friendly campus that recognizes the richness aging brings to our community and increases awareness of healthy aging.
